Higher Education System in Indonesia

Abstract

Background Speaking of higher education system in Indonesia, in fact we cannot avoid talking about the background-historical and philosophical, as well as the legitimacy upon which it is based. Historically, higher education in Indonesia has been in existence since the golden age of Old Mataram Kingdom and the Kingdom of Sriwijaya in the seventh century B.C. During that time education was oriented to religion (Himayana Budhism). Some prominent scholars of which included Janabedra, Cakyakirti, and Dharmapala.
