Higher-Order Photon Bunching in a Semiconductor Microcavity

Abstract: Quantum mechanically indistinguishable particles such as photons may show collective behavior. Therefore, an appropriate description of a light field must consider the properties of an assembly of photons instead of independent particles. We have studied multiphoton correlations up to fourth order in the single-mode emission of a semiconductor microcavity in the weak and strong coupling regimes. The counting statistics of single photons were recorded with picosecond time resolution, allowing quantitative measu… Show more

“…Recently we presented results of ( ) 2 g -measurements on a picosecond timescale [12]. We chose to use a modified streak camera as detector because it provides single-photon sensitivity together with a temporal resolution, which can be as short as 2 ps.…”

“…We use a data set of the emission from a planar semiconductor microcavity in the lasing regime using non-resonant optical pumping with 4 mW excitation power [12] as an example to visualize the technique. To calculate the intensity correlation function, one needs to know the number of photon pairs detected at times t and t τ + , respectively.…”

“…Although more recent experiments could generate single photons with coherence times up to several microseconds [16][17][18] HBT setups are still used. Placing two detectors in the spatial mode of the photon flux, the beam splitter is not required any more, but still the photons are "split" to either of the detectors at different locations [19].Recently, measurements of photon statistics with single detection devices based on a gated Geiger mode InGaAs APD [20] or a modified streak camera in single-photon counting mode [21,22] were reported. Nonclassical dynamic features were observed in the light from semiconductor microlasers.…”
