Higher-Spin Theory and Space-Time Metamorphoses

Abstract: Introductory lectures on higher-spin gauge theory given at 7 Aegean workshop on non-Einstein theories of gravity. The emphasis is on qualitative features of the higher-spin gauge theory and peculiarities of its space-time interpretation. In particular, it is explained that Riemannian geometry cannot play a fundamental role in the higher-spin gauge theory. The higher-spin symmetries are argued to occur at ultra high energy scales beyond the Planck scale. This suggests that the higher-spin gauge theory can help … Show more

“…The reader familiarized with HSGR will note already a similarity of Label (10) with the fields of HSGR. Actually, their equivalence is up to determination of the algebra U pYq, which, for higher spin gravity, it is typically a Weyl algebra of multiple oscillators and their products with Clifford algebras [18][19][20][21][22]. As in HSGR, we shall require local invariance of the matrix model in M-space, i.e., that the systems of constraints (9) must be constant with respect to a covariant derivative.…”
