Highlights on Gold TADF Complexes

Abstract: Thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) and TADF-organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) systems are being given increasing attention in research nowadays. Much more work has been done for organic-based materials in this field, but the use of TADF organometallic systems has also emerged in recent years. In particular, TADF-based gold compounds have not been particularly well-explored, with a higher number of examples of Au(I)-molecules and fewer for the higher oxidation state Au(III) derivatives. Neverth… Show more

“…4-fold decrease of the fluorescence quantum yields was observed upon coordination of the Au-PR 3 fragment due to population of the Molecules 2020, 25, 949 5 of 11 (low-energy and non-emissive) triplet state in 3 and 4 ( Table 2). These fluorescence quantum yields were not affected by oxygen due to the short lifetimes of the singlets, and were also evidence that reverse intersystem crossing, either thermally activated or due to triplet-triplet annihilation, was not occurring in these systems [23]. The presence of a triplet population was further confirmed by transient absorption spectroscopy (nanosecond laser flash photolysis, NLFP) in de-aerated solutions with compound 3.…”

“…While the former has exhaustively been investigated reaching a mature knowledge with respect to molecular design, emission features, and device optimizations, [ 5,12,64,77,78,81–85 ] TADF organometallic compounds have been much less investigated to date. [ 5,12,31,77,86–89 ] This represents the focus of this review, complementing other recent ones. [ 5,12,31,86–89 ] In short, we have compiled all data published in the literature on SSLD devices—that is, OLEDs and LECs—including transition metal complexes showing TADF emission (Section 2).…”

[ 5,12,31,86–89 ] In short, we have compiled all data published in the literature on SSLD devices—that is, OLEDs and LECs—including transition metal complexes showing TADF emission (Section 2). We have divided this section with regards to the type of metal core, and for each metal, the discussion is further focused on the emission color,—that is, blue, green, red, and white colors—of the devices.…”

“…Gold chemistry has emerged as one of the most interesting, fruitful, and promising trends in coordination and organometallic chemistry [1][2][3]. Taking in many cases advantage of the recurrent aurophilic interactions [4,5], gold compounds have been exploited in materials chemistry to generate light emitters [6][7][8], gelators [9,10], liquid crystals [11], and other self-assembled materials [12][13][14][15]. In medicinal chemistry, several gold compounds are being investigated as potentially therapeutic and theranostic agents against different diseases [16][17][18][19].…”

“…In this context, we have synthesized and characterized 12 new fluorinated compounds with the formula [AuSR F (XPhos)] in which XPhos = 2-dicyclohexylphosphino-2 ,4 ,6triisopropylbiphenyl and SR F = SC 6 F 4 (CF 3 )-4 (1); SC 6 F 5 (2); SC 6 HF 4 -4 (3); SC 6 H 3 (CF 3 ) 2 -3,5 (4); SC 6 H 4 (CF 3 )-2 (5); SC 6 H 4 (CF 3 )-4 (6); SC 6 H 3 F 2 -2,4 (7); SC 6 H 3 F 2 -3,5 (8); SC 6 H 4 F-2 (9); SC 6 H 4 F-3 (10); SC 6 H 4 F-4 (11); SCF 3 (12) (Scheme 1). We study the effects that fluorinated thiolate ligands exert over the gold centers in eight newly determined X-ray crystalline structures.…”
