Highly Antibacterial Efficacy of a Cotton Fabric Treated with Piperazinyl Schiff Base

Abstract: Due to the structure of hierarchical aligned cellulose fibrils, cotton fabric used in clothing possesses excellent moisture and thermal managements. Such structure yet may retain metabolic excrements and sebum secretions discharged from the human skin, which reproduce microorganisms harmful for human health. However, incorporating the antimicrobial coating into the cotton fabric can sufficiently resist the microorganism growth. In this work, a water-soluble antibacterial coating named N-(4-(allyloxy) benzylide… Show more

“…[11] More recently, piperazinyl Schiff base has been used to treat CF for potent antibacterial effects. [30] In this study, a cellulose-based azomethine ligand was prepared. Its Fe (III), Mn (II), and Cr (III) complexes were developed as UV protective, and antimicrobial textile fabric will be investigated.…”

“…In this work, a novel nonleaching antimicrobial CF, named HPL-CF, has been prepared by grafting antimicrobial HPL onto the CF with an effective and widely used silane coupling strategy (Scheme 1). 38,39 HPLs are covalently attached to the CF surface without altering the morphology and integrity of the CF. HPL-CFs exhibit excellent antimicrobial activities against E. coli, S. aureus, and C. albicans and maintain a >98% antimicrobial ratio after 50 washing cycles, demonstrating excellent washing durability.…”
