Highly Fluorescent Conjugated Copolymers Containing Dithieno[3,2‐b:2′,3′‐d]pyrrole

Abstract: Three copolymers that incorporate dithieno[3,2‐b:2′,3′‐d]pyrrole with fluorene, carbazole, or pyridine have been prepared by Suzuki reaction and characterized by NMR spectroscopy and GPC. A new homopolymer of dithieno[3,2‐b:2′,3′‐d]pyrrole was also synthesized for the comparison of their structure–property relationships. Their thermal, optical, and electrochemical properties have been investigated. All the polymers exhibit good thermal stability with decomposition temperatures around 400 °C. The fluorescence q… Show more

“…The optical band gaps ( E g opt ) of all polymers were determined from the UV‐vis absorption spectra onset. As shown in Table 1, PDTP showed similar optical properties as compared with reported DTP‐based polymers, except for donor–acceptor‐type polymers 7c, 9b, 15. The onset wavelength of optical absorption of PDTPT and PDTPTT is similar to those of the reported DTP‐based polymers.…”

“…For the polymer films, the corresponding maximum absorption peaks (λ max ) are red shifted to 488, 586, and 560 nm, respectively. In the mean time, the absorption bands become broader than those in solutions, indicating strong intermolecular interactions in solid state 32. From their extended absorption band edges (λ onset : P1 , 630 nm; P2 , 760 nm; and P3 , 736 nm), the optical bandgaps ( E optg) are obtained as 1.96, 1.63, and 1.68 eV for P1 , P2 , and P3 , respectively.…”

“…The synthetic routes for DTP polymers are shown in Scheme 1. DTP copolymers and DTP homopolymer were prepared by SuzukiMiyaura coupling reaction and Yamamoto-type polymerization, respectively [28,29]. The reaction scheme is displayed in Figure 1.…”
