Hip Surgery in Cerebral Palsy: A Bibliometric Analysis

Abstract: Hip dislocation in cerebral palsy can lead to pain, pressure sores and difficulty with perineal hygiene. Hip surveillance programs have been implemented to identify patients who might benefit from early intervention and preventive strategies. Surgical techniques used to treat hip dislocation include soft tissue procedures, guided growth, osteotomies and salvage procedures. A search was conducted using Clarivate Web of Science Core Collection on 18 October 2022, to identify all studies of bony or soft tissue su… Show more

“…Alternatively, our and previous studies show that femoral head shape can be improved with time (Rutz A shape in 13 hips before hip reconstruction, and in 21 during final evaluation in our cohort) but only when the hip is reduced to the acetabulum after hip reconstruction surgery. 27,28 Interestingly, pain decrease was noticed in all the patients, but smaller in those after unilateral hip dislocation surgery than in those who underwent bilateral surgery. Of note, there is a correlation between the pain and the position of the opposite hip.…”

“…The most productive journal in the field of SEMLS was Gait and Posture. Interestingly, this is different to the most productive journal in hip surgery in cerebral palsy, which is the Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics (USA) [27]. These two journals have similar impact factors of 2.746 and 2.537, respectively.…”
