“…Nonsurgical treatments offer little, if any, survival advantage. As a result, mortality almost parallels its incidence, with a 5-year survival rate of less than 10% (Kimura et al, 1998). There are only few substantial data reporting clinical significant prognostic markers for pancreatic cancer patients.…”

“…2 The highest incidence of K-ras mutation has been found in ductal adenocarcinoma of the pancreas, in which it ranges from 70-100%. [3][4][5] Because K-ras mutations have been found in very small incidental carcinomas, which were diagnosed only at autopsy, 6 as well as in intraductal portions of ductal carcinomas, it is considered an initial event in carcinoma development. This may make it a good tool for detecting pancreatic carcinomas at an early stage.…”

“…For these reasons, estimation of the exact duration needed to conclude that the diabetes occurred before or after the development of PC is difficult. The incidental pancreatic cancer detection indicates that this cancer can remain silent for a considerable time or grow very slowly 17 . Nevertheless, the notion that diabetes is a predisposing factor for PC remains questionable.…”
