Historical changes in dispersed kopanitse land type and changes in use of agricultural land on Kysuce region example

Abstract: Barančok P., Barančoková M.: Historical changes in dispersed kopanitse land type and changes in use of agricultural land on Kysuce region example. Ekológia (Bratislava), Vol. 35, No. 4, p. 371-391, 2016. Territory of Kysuce is characterised by a high proportion of the traditional agricultural landscape (TAL), which occupy almost 12% of the area. Two types of TAL were allocated here. The first type is represented by TAL with dispersed settlement. The second type is represented by TAL of arable land and grass… Show more

“…Though these data refer to a shorter reporting period, they are comparable with the trend in Hrušov. Similar to Hrušov a significant decrease in the share of arable land (by about 11%), a slight increase in the share of forests (by about 6%) and an unchanged extent of grasslands between 1950-2014 was reported in the region with dispersed settlements in Kysuce (northwest Slovakia) (Barančok & Barančoková, 2016). The comparisons above indicate a similar trend but higher intensity of LC changes in the studied area compared to the related regions in Slovakia.…”

“…The issue of LC and LDI changes in a landscape with a dispersed settlement in a detailed scale has not been broadly studied. In Slovakia only the studies of Petrovič (2006a,b), Zrníková and Hrčková (2012) and Barančok and Barančoková (2016), are worth mentioning. Unlike from the traditional studies which are dealing with the LC and/or LDI changes in one area on several temporal levels, our study compares the LC and LDI changes in one area at several temporal and different spatial levels.…”

“…Since weeds pose a major threat to successful crop production, a lot of efforts have been carried out in intensification in agriculture during the last decades. Rapid changes in agricultural practices with intensive chemical fertilization and herbicide application, sowing high competitive crops, seed cleaning techniques and so on, had a significant impact on the number and abundance of arable weeds resulting in a huge decline in weed biodiversity (Sutclife, Kay, 2000;Barančok, Barančoková, 2016).…”

“…Generally, TAL tend to be more diverse, smaller in scale, and more clearly structured and ordered than other agricultural landscapes [14,15]. TAL often survive as small remnants as a consequence of land use changes and intensification of agriculture and could be considered as "islands of biodiversity" in the present landscape [16][17][18].…”
