Holographic Duals for Five-Dimensional Superconformal Quantum Field Theories

Abstract: Dedicated to John H. Schwarz on the occasion of his seventy fifth birthday. We construct global solutions to Type IIB supergravity with 16 residual supersymmetries whose space-time is AdS6 × S 2 warped over a Riemann surface. Families of solutions are labeled by an arbitrary number L ≥ 3 of asymptotic regions, in each of which the supergravity fields match those of a (p, q) five-brane, and may therefore be viewed as near-horizon limits of fully localized intersections of five-branes in Type IIB string theory. “…9 These have been treated in [30], where the problem was reduced to two hard PDEs for the warping and dilaton (which were later confirmed in [44]). Recently, the general solution was found in [37,38] by reanalyzing the problem in a clever coordinate system.…”

“…In later subsections we will do the exercise of applying the systems to AdS solutions. In particular, we will recover the AdS 7 and AdS 5 solutions of [21,23] and [24], and we will write AdS 6 solutions in terms of a Toda-like equation which presumably reproduces the solutions in [37,38]. For AdS 5 , the only solutions in our class will actually be those of [24].…”

“…The probe BPS equations are derived from a κ-symmetry analysis, and we will clarify an important subtlety in this analysis which arises due to the presence of non-trivial axion-dilaton backgrounds: the κ-symmetry conditions of [25][26][27] are derived with a particular gauge fixing of the local U(1) in the covariant formulation of the Type IIB supergravity field equations of [28,29]. The analysis of the supergravity BPS equations in [5][6][7]22], on the other hand, was carried out with a different gauge fixing. This has to be accounted for when using the expressions for the Killing spinors of the warped AdS 6 solutions in the κ-symmetry conditions, as we will explain in detail in section 3.1.…”

“…In [5][6][7] 1 supergravity solutions were constructed which are in one-to-one correspondence with 5-brane intersections and which provide compelling candidates for holographic duals to the SCFTs realized on such intersections. This allows to use the established tools of AdS/CFT for quantitative analyses of the 5d SCFTs.…”
