All three other instances of μέμνημαι in Homer refer to direct, personal memory: Il. 5.818, 6.222; Od. 24.122. Contrast Moran (1975) 204 and O'Maley (2011) 4, for whom Phoenix's memory is simply of heard stories. In later tradition, Phoenix features among the hunters of the Calydonian boar (Ov.
