Host Factors Independently Associated With Prognosis in Patients With Oral Cavity Cancer

Abstract: IMPORTANCEThe association and interaction of host characteristics with prognosis in patients with oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) are poorly understood. There is increasing evidence that host characteristics are associated with treatment outcomes of many cancers.OBJECTIVES To examine the host factors associated with prognosis in patients with OSCC and their interactions to create a numerical index that quantifies the prognostic capacity of these host characteristics.

“…Albumin (Alb) and fibrinogen (Fib) are two commonly used circulating inflammatory proteins. Alb has been reported to be a well-established prognostic factor in patients with various diseases, including oral cavity cancer [10], metastatic pathological femur fractures [11], and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis [12]. Moreover, the prognostic role of Fib has also been reported in various studies, such as spontaneous intracerebral haemorrhage [13] and surgically resected non-small-cell lung cancer [14].…”

“… 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 Albumin and fibrinogen are the two most common biomarkers of inflammation. Recent studies reported that albumin was associated with the prognosis of many diseases, such as Oral Cavity cancer, 11 metastatic pathological femur fractures, 12 and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. 13 Besides, previous studies showed that fibrinogen has the function of predicting the prognosis of diseases, such as spontaneous cerebral hemorrhage 14 and renal cancer.…”

“…Several inflammatory indices based on peripherical white blood cell counts, including lymphocyte-to-neutrophil ratio (LNR) [10], systemic inflammatory marker (SIM) [11], prognostic nutritional index (PNI) [12], and H-Index [13], have been proposed to provide health researchers with more comprehensive and accurate prognostication.…”
