Host miRNAs-microbiota interactions in gastric cancer

Abstract: It is widely acknowledged that gastric cancer seriously affects the quality of life and survival of patients. The correlation between the microbiota and gastric cancer has attracted extensive attention in recent years, nonetheless the specific mechanism of its impact on gastric cancer remain largely unclear. Recent studies have shown that in addition to its role in the host’s inflammatory and immune response, the microbiota can also affect the occurrence and development of gastric cancer by affecting the expre… Show more

“…It is urgently necessary to find a diagnostic method for GC. Accumulating evidence has demonstrated that ncRNAs participate in tumorigenesis by regulating invasion, proliferation, and migration ( Fonseca Cabral et al, 2020 ; Tan et al, 2020 ; Lu et al, 2021 ; Yang et al, 2022 ). As mentioned previously, ncRNAs are abnormally expressed in GC and their expression is significantly related to patients’ prognoses.…”

“…Given that altered miRNAs and pathogenic bacteria contribute to tumorigenesis via the different mechanisms (Yang et al, 2022), we hypothesize that integrating the two types of molecular changes across the different body fluids may have a synergetic effect on the diagnosis of lung cancer. Our results show that the combined analysis of miRNAs in plasma and bacterial genera in sputum yielded a better performance than does a single category of the biomarkers, and thus validates the hypothesis.…”

“…H. pylori infection of a host results in the production of miR-155 via the NF-κB pathway which subsequently inhibits IL-8. Furthermore, studies have shown that miR-146a has a regulatory role in H. pylori -associated GC [ 61 ]. It has also been reported that polymorphisms of miR-146a is associated with GC [ 62 ].…”
