Hosting capacity assessment and improvement for photovoltaic-based distributed generation in distorted distribution networks

Abstract: Abstract-In this paper, the hosting (or maximum allowable) capacity of a photovoltaic (PV)-based distributed generation (DG) unit for a typical two bus distorted distribution system, is analyzed. The harmonic constraints, total and individual harmonic distortion limits stated in IEEE Standard 519, and the conventional hosting capacity constraints, bus rms voltage limit and the current carrying capability limit of the supply cables are taken into account. In the analysis, various simulations are carried out to … Show more

“…In [27,43] passive filters are proposed, for the first time, to increase the hosting capacity of PV-based DG units. Planning for the optimal Ctype passive filter that can obtain maximum DG penetration was carried out, while complying with the harmonic limits and other conventional DG considerations.…”

“…It is a costly exercise for both parties as internal document needs to change to accommodate the new phenomena, training of the manpower to conduct the measurement, purchasing of new measuring equipment and adapting to the new challenges involved. In the new era the smart grid plays an important role as the network is automated and monitored using the modern IT/communication/ control technology [4]. Those electronic automated equipment has negative effects on the power quality.…”

“…The designed filter is optimal in terms of coverage area and filtering effect, but the accuracy of its component parameters could not be achieved in practice. To increase PV hosting capacity in distorted distribution systems, Sakar et al [32] designed a C-type passive filter (Figure 1b) to maximize the harmonic constraint, but the filter design method is not presented. Ali et al [33] developed a new multiple-arm passive filter design method on the basis of a crow search algorithm to minimize the total harmonic current distortion as an objective function for an industrial plant.…”
