Hotspots in research on the measurement of medical students’ clinical competence from 2012-2016 based on co-word analysis

Abstract: BackgroundThis study aimed to identify hotspots in research on clinical competence measurements from 2012 to 2016.MethodsThe authors retrieved literature published between 2012 and 2016 from PubMed using selected medical subject headings (MeSH) terms. They used BibExcel software to generate high-frequency MeSH terms and identified hotspots by co-word analysis and cluster analysis.ResultsThe authors searched 588 related articles and identified 31 high-frequency MeSH terms. In addition, they obtained 6 groups of… Show more

“…Keywords are the essence of academic papers [39]. Through the analysis of high-frequency keywords [40], the overall characteristics and development trends of the field can be revealed [41], and research hotspots in this field are able to be obtained more efficiently [42,43]. Using Excel software to analyze the frequency of the author keywords [44], and then 2301 keywords were obtained.…”

“…Bibliometric mapping is based on the text mining and coword analysis, in such a way that captures the relations between pairs of words or phrases found in research publications. In contrast to ordinary reviews which result in tables of evidence, bibliometric mapping visualizes the content of research publications in the form of scientific landscapes (Chang et al, 2017;Peters and Van Raan, 1993). These landscapes can be further analyzed using a range of interpretative approaches forming so-called "synthetic reviews" (Armstrong et al, 2011;Schubert and So os, 2010).…”

“…In addition, the research hotspots in this field can be obtained more efficiently (Wei and Jil 2012; Chang et al . 2017). Therefore, in the present study, data were recovered from both WoSCC and Scopus databases, hence safeguarding the correctness and comprehensiveness of the data.…”
