Abstract:Transgender people commonly experience discrimination from clinicians, which directly contributes to worse mental and physical health outcomes among this population. This article describes mechanisms by which stigma perpetuates health inequity among transgender patients and highlights its unique effects on transgender patients of color. The article concludes with recommendations to cisgender clinicians on how to help prevent stigmatizing interactions with transgender patients.
