How Far Can BIM Reduce Information Asymmetry in the Australian Construction Context?

Abstract: ■Building Information Modeling (BIM) systems are increasingly used in construction projects. Theoretically, these systems provide greater transparency and access to construction project information and, in doing so, should reduce the information asymmetry that commonly arises in construction contracting relationships. This typically occurs when suppliers of products and services opportunistically take advantage of the client due to the imbalance in information. The article therefore explores whether or not the… Show more

“…In addition, BIM concept is also used as a virtual construction that helps in ensuring project design is free from any design clashes. This is in line with understanding of BIM by Forsythe et al (2015) [24] and Shengyi et al (2016) [25] where BIM can also emerge as virtual reality in producing project design.…”

“…Building Information Modeling (BIM) can be recognized as one of the main enabling technologies for digitizing the construction industry (Eastman et al 2011). BIM holds great potential for sharing and visualization of information as well as for the consideration of changes in design and during the execution of a construction project (Forsythe et al 2015;Jeong et al 2016;Deshpande et al 2014;Sacks et al 2010). In fact, information is kept centrally in the model, which allows it to be shared transparently and to be accessed by all construction participants (Forsythe et al 2015).…”
