How Industrialization Stage Moderates the Impact of China’s Low-Carbon Pilot Policy?

Abstract: The goal of China’s low-carbon pilot policy (LCP) is not only to solve the problem of climate change but, more importantly, to achieve the low-carbon transformation of cities. This paper analyzes the industrialization stage’s moderating effect on LCP policy implementation using the difference-in-difference model (DID) with the Low Carbon Development Index (LCDI) as the explained variable. We find that for the low-carbon pilot cities (LCPCs) at the later stage of industrialization, the LCP policy has a positive… Show more

“…For example, the stronger the level of technical competence when it comes to prefabricated construction for the contractor, the more it can promote the acceptance by developers of prefabricated buildings and market recognition of prefabricated buildings. Many cities in China are facing challenges associated with low-carbon transformation (65). As a significant contributor of carbon emissions, the construction industry has been subject to a series of policies promulgated by local governments which encourage them to be more industrialized (66).…”

“…J's carbon environmental problems have certain constraints on the rapid development of economy [1]. Affected by global warming, in recent years, heatwaves have occurred frequently in Asia, Europe, Oceania and other places, and droughts in western Africa and southern Europe have been stronger and longer, heavy precipitation events in land areas have increased frequently, and extreme severe weather such as floods and typhoons have emerged in endlessly around the world; Since 1971, the world's glaciers have generally accelerated melting and shrinking, and the ice reserves in Antarctica and Greenland have rapidly decreased [2]. The Arctic sea ice area has shrunk at a rate of 3.5% -4.1% every decade.…”
