How to develop inter-organisational research networks in mental health: A systematic review

Abstract: Background: Inter-organizational mental health research networks are increasingly encouraged by the Department of Health although the literature suggests that there is little evidence about what leads to effectiveness of these networks. Method: For the first phase of the project we have constructed a framework of relevant factors in the structure, process and outcome of inter-organizational research networks. We then used this to conduct a systematic review to summarize the evidence for best practice in these … Show more

“…Mental health is a significant determinant of individuals’ growth and well-being in the whole life span (Power and Hertzman, 1997; Bures, 2003; Ruddy et al, 2005; Jelleyman and Spencer, 2008; Oishi and Schimmack, 2010; Shiraga et al, 2013). Previous work shows that residential mobility has significant impacts on individuals’ mental health (Kessler and Magee, 1993; DeWit, 1998; Oishi and Graham, 2010), associating with more mental health problems (e.g., depression, schizophrenia, and anxiety) (Tunstall et al, 2014a,b).…”

“…Thus, the feeling of uncertainty concerning the future within the context of their job is increased. According to the literature, individuals who are not dismissed in a collective dismissal situation, referred to as "survivors" (Armstrong-Stassen 1994; Korkeamäki and Kyyrä 2014), develop feelings of insecurity regarding the future (Greenhalgh and Rosenblatt 2010), and their well-being is negatively impacted (Bamberger et al 2012;Broom et al 2006;Burchell 2011;Ferrie et al 2008;Glavin 2015;Snorradóttir et al 2015). Job insecurity can affect individuals in a variety of ways and manifests itself as a threat to financial stability and security and also decreases individuals' availability and participation in family life (Voydanoff 2004).…”

“…The identification of issues concerning the development of a necessary infrastructure is relatively embryonic. A systematic review of the structures, process and outcomes from interorganizational research highlighted the need for high quality studies to compare different network structures and processes, and to examine the impact of different structures and processes on the effectiveness of a network (Ruddy et al, 2005). Several methods for studying networks were highlighted within this review.…”
