How to Tackle Tremor – Systematic Review of the Literature and Diagnostic Work-Up

Abstract: Background: Tremor is the most prevalent movement disorder in clinical practice. It is defined as involuntary, rhythmic, oscillatory movements. The diagnostic process of patients with tremor can be laborious and challenging, and a clear, systematic overview of available diagnostic techniques is lacking. “…All statistical analyses were performed with the IBM SPSS Statistics 19.0 software package assuming a 0.05 level of significance III. RESULTS Both groups of patients displayed a peak of frequency from 4 Hz to 7 Hz for both tasks as reported in the literature ( [6,8,15]). A careful visual observation of the peaks of frequency could not detect any difference between the loaded and the unloaded tasks.…”

“…Tremor is a common feature of a variety of neurological disorders, including essential tremor (ET), Parkinson’s disease (PD), and dystonia [1]. In genetic studies of ET, investigators must screen potential enrollees (i.e., reportedly affected relatives) by mail or telephone to ensure that they do not have other neurological conditions.…”

“…Bender visual-motor gestalt test (BGT) (Kishi et al 1993), and Benton visual retention test (B-VRT) (Mathiesen et al 1999; Bast-Pettersen et al 2005). The results of static steadiness, aiming, and tracking/drawing tests have been used to classify tremor respectively as postural, intention, or kinetic (Louis et al 2000;Louis 2007; Buijink et al 2012; National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke 2012; Gonzalez-Usigli & Espay 2013; Sternberg et al 2013). …”
