Uncovering Productivity Gains of Digital and Green Servitization: Implications from the Automotive Industry

Abstract:The growing industrial concern about sustainability challenges has driven vehicle and auto parts manufacturers to adopt service capabilities as a way to maintain competitiveness in compliance with environmental regulations. As a result, automakers have progressively integrated digital and green service initiatives to support operations and address environmental issues effectively. The present study examined the effect of digital and green servitization on the firm's productivity. To test their effect quantitatively, this study used the ORBIS database to construct a multi-country sample containing 228 companies in the automotive industry. Our findings indicate that implementation of digital and green servitization is positively associated with higher productivity outcomes once the two forms of servitization coexist and operate jointly. Moreover, the results of the study underscore the importance of establishing a successional pathway of implementation priorities. Our evidence suggests that firms willing to offer green services should consider offering digital services first, as this is the only way to obtain productivity gains from green servitization.

The university's computer laboratory is currently one of the most challenging aspects when imparting practical tasks with regards to the education technology (ET) enhancement. This study intends to observe the issues confronted by students while performing tasks in the laboratory in different educational modes. The online survey is conducted using quantitative and qualitative research instruments to evaluate the students' perspectives. This exploratory work has emphasized the practical issues such as an insufficient time constraint, and instruments, geographical needs, financial concerns, and unavailability of subject specialists to cater for relevant issues about a particular course. The sample size was (N= 161) drawn from a stratified sampling method for analysis of four strata. This research addresses these problems in the laboratory with an aim to improve the student's practical skills as well as their investigation-based learning. It is needed for practical based courses, through experimentation with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) paradigms. The design science methodology is adopted, it presents the conception of an Intelligent Virtual Laboratory (IVL) based on pedagogical agent-based cognitive architecture (PACA). This IVL provides the level of excellence of laboratory needs by enhancing the ET which students can efficiently perform practical tasks online at anywhere. The results showed that IVL has a significant model for enhancing the learning to students and recommendations for further research implementation.

RESUMOO objetivo da presente pesquisa foi analisar como a customização em massa e o movimento Maker estão modificando a produção e consumo de artigos têxteis e de confecção e quais são os possíveis desdobramentos tecnológicos desses novos paradigmas. Para tanto, o procedimento metodológico adotado na presente pesquisa têm caráter predominantemente expositivo baseado em levantamento bibliográfico. A customização em massa e o movimento Maker têm em comum a proposição de um consumidor ativo que participa nas decisões de construção, modificação e fabricação de diferentes projetos de produto por meio do uso de ferramentas de Tecnologia da Informação e Comunicação (TIC). Como resultados, notou-se que a Internet das Coisas, a robótica, a impressão 3D, os microprocessadores com preços acessíveis e o ensino de linguagem de programação são elementos decisivos na difusão do movimento Maker e da customização em massa. A Fábrica Inteligente e a mini-fábrica serão dois modelos industriais amplamente utilizados. O desenvolvimento de didáticas de ensino, de modelos ágeis para o desenvolvimento e gestão de novos produtos e de ferramentas de comunicação com o consumidor são temas para pesquisas futuras de modo a consolidar esses novos paradigmas.Palavras chave: Movimento Maker, Customização em Massa, Indústria Têxtil,
