HSG1, a grape Bcl-2-associated athanogene, promotes floral transition by activating CONSTANS expression in transgenic Arabidopsis plant

Abstract: HSG1 (Heat shock-induced gene 1) is one of the high-temperature-induced proteins in grapevine. Sequence analysis has demonstrated that HSG1 is a grape Bcl-2-associated athanogene (BAG) that contains IQ and BAG domains in its sequence. HSG1 expression was not detected in leaves without heat treatment, while tendrils, stems, flowers, and berries expressed HSG1 even without heat treatment. By heat treatment at 45°C for 60 min, HSG1 expression was upregulated in both leaves and berries. HSG1-overexpressing Arabido… Show more

“…Among these genes, ATPases, helicases, DEAD-box proteins, WDRs, SETs, and PHD proteins are involved in chromatin-associated transcriptional regulation [62][63][64]; MADS-box proteins, MYBs, AP2s, C2H2 zinc finger proteins, bZIPs, ABI3s, bHLHs, UEs, hydrolases, and IQ domain proteins (IQDs) are important for the transition from the vegetative to reproductive stage [38,48,65,66]. Expression of an IQD gene in Arabidopsis may stimulate floral transition by activating AtCO [67]. Our real-time PCR results revealed an increased AtCO transcript level in transgenic Arabidopsis overexpressing PaCOL1 variants under SD conditions ( Figure 4E).…”

“…Kobayashi et al . [ 48 ] described a possible role for plant BAG proteins in floral transition, through activation of the expression of the CONSTANS gene. To our knowledge, our study is the first to report the overexpression of this gene during ecodormancy.…”

“…The E3 ligase-like protein and the F-box protein are related to male sterility in hybrid rice [ 56 ]. Another DEDEG showed similarity to BAG1 , which encodes a protein with an ubiquitin-like domain and a BAG domain that, like heat shock-induced gene 1, a putative grape BAG protein, promotes the meristematic transition from vegetative to reproductive growth and early flowering [ 57 , 58 ]. ATPase (encoded by PMA2 ) plays a crucial role in energy release by dephosphorylating ATP to ADP.…”
