Hull Number Effect in Ship Using Conveyor on Ocean Waste Collection

Abstract: The increase in ocean waste continues to grow from year to year, especially plastic and solid waste. Various ocean waste collection ships using conveyors exist, both in the form of designs and already in operation, but there has been no research on how many hulls are suitable for ocean waste collectors. This study aims to choose between the three-ship models, namely monohull type U, catamaran type inner flat hull, and trimaran type symmetrical. Assessment is based on ship resistance which relates to fuel consu… Show more

“…The conveyor and wing are constructed at 1:8 scale. The ship model used is a catamaran type, because based on previous numerical research it shows that catamarans are better at collecting marine debris 26,29) . The catamaran ship model is made of wood, because, first, it keeps the ship afloat according to the draft designed, second, it is easier to build and cheaper than other materials.…”

“…Conveyors are the most often utilized instrument for gathering marine trash, according to assessments of marine waste cleaning technology conducted by other researchers 25) . Research on the effect of hulls number using a conveyor on ship resistance force was carried out by Sugianto et al 26) . Numerical research that was also conducted by Sugianto and Chen 27) showed that hollow wings have a lower resistance force than solid wings.…”

“…Wang and Lutsey [3], as well as Molland et al [4], have described several methods to increase the efficiency of energy use on ships. These methods include weather routing [5], [6], speed reduction [7], [6], propeller [8], [9], and hull optimization [10], [11], bow modification [12], [13], [14], hull cleaning management or preventing biofouling [15], [16], [17], [18], [19], [20], trimming strategy [21], adding devices [22], [23], [24], [25], [26], using more advanced antifouling [27], [28], [29], and analyzing the coating roughness [30], [31], [32], [33], [34], etc.…”
