Human Bocavirus quantitative DNA detection in French children hospitalized for acute bronchiolitis

Abstract: Our data suggest that HBoV at a high viral load could be an etiologic agent of respiratory tract disease, whereas the exact role of HBoV at a low viral load, as etiological cause or as pathophysiological co-factor of respiratory diseases, remains to be determined.

“…Some raise the possibility that HBoV is associated with severe respiratory disease (7,8). HBoV is frequently found in hospitalized children under 2 years of age with bronchiolitis, asthma exacerbation, and wheezing (1,11,12). Most patients also presented with symptoms of cough, fever, rhinorrhea, dyspnea, and hypoxia.…”

Primate bocaparvovirus 2 [35].…”

“…Moreover, cases of bronchiolitis increase during RSV peak [14]. RV follows RSV in incidence, with also other viruses involved in bronchiolitis, such as human metapneumovirus (hMPV) [15], human bocavirus [16], enterovirus, adenovirus, influenza virus, human coronavirus and parainfluenza virus. Sometimes these viruses are found in coinfection with RSV or RV.…”
