In 2013, 392 research papers and notes were published in the CHI conference (The ACM CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems) and even more papers in the domain of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) are constantly published in various conferences and journals. It is quite arduous, if not impossible, to read all of these papers. One approach to deal with this information deluge is to focus on skimming through lots of papers in a short period of time, so that one can more wisely choose what to read before investing time in them. In order to teach such a skimming technique, I have taught a technique, called "Quick and Dirty Review (QnDReview)," in a graduate-level HCI course. The method has been employed in the course for five semesters, and students' responses were collected and analyzed. Results showed that students spent, on average, 4.3 minutes per paper and believed that they got the gist of each paper. However, the largest benefit I noticed is that students get the overall pictures of the fields while exposing themselves to various new ideas through this approach.

Több mint fél évszázados felsőoktatási tapasztalat összegzéseként született meg a „Munkapszichológia a 21. században” című könyv, mely alkalmat adott a szerzőnek arra, hogy e diszciplína jövőjéről elgondolkodjon. A munkapszichológiai kutatások jövője azon áll vagy bukik, hogy a tudomány és a gyakorlat közötti szakadékot a szakemberek képesek lesznek-e áthidalni. A munkapszichológia a munka és a dolgozó ember vizsgálatával, fejlesztésével foglalkozik. A munkaelemzést/munkaáttervezést végzőknek a realitásra kell figyelniük, de a „jó élet” fontos részét képző „jó munka” megteremtéséért kell dolgozniuk. Az évente ismétlődő teljesítményértékelés helyét fokozatosan átveszi a folyamatos teljesítménymenedzsment. A munkapszichológusok többsége továbbra is a toborzás és kiválasztás területén dolgozik, de az internet világában a tesztezés egészen mást jelent, mint 1-2 évtizede. A vezetők és beosztottak fejlesztése is sokat változott a számítógéppel segített tanulás/virtuális valóság/számítógépes szimulációt használó játékok korában. A fizikai munkakörnyezet ideális kialakítására törekedve megjelentek „futurisztikus munkahelyek”. Reményeink szerint a jövő munkahelyén a fáradtság értelmet kap, a munkavédelem „lovagjai” megteremtik a biztonságos munkahelyet. Hiszünk abban, hogy a 21. századi Föld egészséges gyermek lesz és hogy mi munkapszichológusok nem az elpusztítására szövetkezők, hanem a világra jöttében bábáskodók, az egészséges felnövekedését segítők között leszünk.***The book titled ’Work psychology in the 21st century’ was born as the conclusion of more than half a century of experience gained in higher education, and it allowed the author to think about the future of this discipline. The future of work psychology researches depends on whether the experts will be able to bridge the gap between science and practice. Work psychology examines work and working people as well as develops these. The experts doing work analysis and work re-planning must keep reality in mind, but they must strive to create “good work” that is an important part of “good life”. The place of yearly performance evaluation is slowly being taken over by permanent performance management. Most of the work psychologists are still working in the field of recruiting and selection, but in the world of the internet testing has a very different meaning from that one or two decades ago. The development of the leaders and employees has also changed a lot in the era of the games using computer-supported learning/virtual reality/computer simulation. Efforts made to create the ideal physical working environment have brought about “futuristic work places”. According to our hopes, in future’s work place tiredness will make a sense, and the “knights” of work safety will create the safe work place. We believe that the Earth of the 21st century will be a healthy child, and we, the work psychologists will not be amongst those uniting to devastate it but those nursing its birth and healthy growth.
