Human papillomavirus type-distribution in cervical cancer in China: the importance of HPV 16 and 18

Abstract: Prophylactic vaccination against HPV 16 and 18 has the potential for effective prevention of high-grade precancer (cervical intraepithelial neoplasia [CIN)] 2/3) and ICC caused by these viruses (globally 50 and 70%, respectively) when employed in women prior to starting sexual activity. To provide data for decisions on HPV vaccination in China, we determined HPV type-distribution in ICC and CIN 2/3 from women of different regions within China. A multicenter study was conducted by randomized sampling of paraffi… Show more

“…As the most prevalent genotype, the prevalences of HPV 16 among different geographical regions in China were similar (7,42,45,56). However, the distribution of HPV 16 variants in China was studied less.…”

“…PCR on the diluted DNA was applied to amplify HPV DNA and then the generic amplification products were detected by DNA enzyme immunoassay (DEIA). HPV positive specimens were typed by reverse hybridization line probe assay SPF10 LiPA25 (version 1) (Kleter et al, 1999;Chen et al, 2009). HPV-DNA testing of paraffin sections is especially vulnerable to cross-contamination.…”

“…There are more than 100 known types of HPV of which at least 15 HPV types have been ranked as high pathogenic (HPV 16,18,35,31,39,51,45,56,52,66,59, 69, 68, 82, and 73), whiles those related to moderate warts of genitals and skin are low pathogenic types (HPV 6,11,43,42,40,44,61,54,72,70,81) for the cancer of the genital region in women (6,7). Infection with carcinogenic HPV types is noted as the major reason for the increase of all invasive cancers of cervical region and the neoplasia of intraepithelial cervical carcinoma (8)(9)(10). OCa is the utmost usual abnormality of the females in the cervix (11,12) and the most lethal of the gynecologic malignancies with 16% -51% globally.…”
