Abstract:The hydration kinetics of a compacted low-density bentonite is investigated from both experimental and numerical points of view. A water retention curve and water permeability under saturated conditions were determined to characterize the hydraulic behaviour of the compacted material. The evolution of swelling strains developed during a soaking test performed under oedometer conditions is interpreted as a measure of the hydration kinetics. While soaking was immediate, the vertical strains appeared to develop v… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
