Hydrodynamic Solution of the Virtual Mass Coefficient of a Vortex Ring Moving in a Fluid

Abstract: A semianalytical solution was obtained for the virtual mass coefficient (C V ) of a vortex ring moving in a fluid of unlimited extent. A new phenomenon of the drag force on a vortex ring moving in an immiscible fluid was emerged from these analyses. The C V result was compared favorably with recent experimental and numerical results obtained by other investigators.
