Hydrogen isotopes permeation evaluation in the advanced material for nuclear fusion blanket use

Abstract: Behavior of hydrogen isotopes such as permeation, diffusion, and dissolution infusion blanket materials were investigatedfrom a viewpoint of the material development and a material design for a fusion reactor. Experiments were conducted with Reduced Activation Ferritic Steel (F82H) and various kinds ofSiC materials at elevated temperature. To evaluate permeability of SiC materials and RAFM, deuterium gas permeability was measured using newly designed device. Permeation of hydrogen through RAFM was not signific… Show more

“…The hydrogen permeation coefficient of monolithic chemical vapor deposition (CVD) SiC is found to be very low [38], [39]. One measurement found monolithic SiC to have permeability four orders of magnitude lower than SS316 at 550 • C, with the SiC at 950 • C having similar permeability to steel (SS316) at 550 • C [40].…”

“…Comparison of pressure increase rate [Pa/sec] (permeation flow rate) obtained by experiments and model calculation were summarized in Table I, where we assumed SS316 permeability was K ′ = 5.12 × 10 −2 (− 3120⁄ ), based our previous experimental results [3].…”
