“…18 The Rh-Pt/ ZrO 2 catalyst washcoated on cordierite monoliths has a 100% ethanol conversion and a >65% H 2 selectivity at 600 °C. 18 Similar results are reported by Sheng et al 36 using a Rh-Pt/CeO 2 catalyst, wherein the H 2 selectivity is 60% at temperatures greater than 400 °C. Cobo et al 17 used Rh-Pt/La 2 O 3 catalyst to effect the complete conversion of ethanol with an H 2 selectivity of 88% at 600 °C; the formation of catalytically active Rh-Pt-Rh 2 O 3 was postulated.…”

“…According to this, the reduction of the catalysts at 700 °C before reaction appears to favor the availability of Pt on the catalyst surface, mitigating its adsorption into the support. However, Rh/(Rh + Pt) ratio approached to expected in RhPt/CeO2 and RhPt/ZrO2 after reaction, showing a possible adsorption of Pt into either the particles or the support [60,61]. In contrast, no significant changes in Rh/(Rh + Pt) ratio of reduced and aged RhPt/La2O3 samples were observed, but the total content of the metals on the surface decreased.…”

“…Although the determination of the cerium oxide state from Ce 3d level spectra is difficult, we reviewed several publications trying to establish the contribution of Ce +3 and Ce +4 in each catalyst sample. Ce +4 could be ascribed to shoulders at 882, 888, 899, 901, 908, and 917 eV, [55,60,66] and Ce +3 can be seen at 885 and 903 eV [55,60,64]. Both species play an important role in the catalytic process.…”

“…It is known from the literature that the particle size determination from TEM images is not an easy task. Idriss et al 65 ), the size varied from 4 to 8 nm. 66 In our case, the surface areas of the supported catalysts were 19.8-17 m 2 g À1 (Table 1), depending on the Rh content View Article Online (0.1-5%).…”
