Hydrologic and Hydraulic Modelling Integrated With Gis: A Study of the Acaraú River Basin – Ce

Abstract: Abstract:The paper presents a case study integrating hydrologic models, hydraulic models and a geographic information system (GIS) to delineate flooded areas in the medium-sized Acaraú River Basin in Ceará State, Brazil. The computational tools used were HEC-HMS for hydrologic modelling, HEC-RAS for hydraulic modelling and HEC-GeoRAS for the GIS. The results showed that a substantial portion of the riverine populations of the cities of Sobral, Santana do Acaraú and Groairas were affected by floods. Overall, th… Show more

“…Na Figura 7, percebe-se que as áreas inundáveis simuladas invadem a avenida que margeia o córrego (marginal Botafogo), podendo atingir a cota em que se situam casas, prédios, e até outras ruas circunvizinhas. Cabral et al (2014;2016) ressaltam que o risco de inundação é em função da lâmina média de água escoada em certa área e da quantidade de pessoas vulneráveis às enchentes, podendo-se afirmar que nesses seis trechos simulados há ameaça de risco de enchentes.…”

“…All methods where tested against implementations of them on other platforms, including the specific hidrological models implemented on a sheet file and through WHAT [6]. These options exist in contrast to other types of methodologies involving hidrological models applied to data and then loaded manually into a GIS program [29], as they facilitate the action of applying specific types of modelling to the same subset of openly acessible hidrological data. The generation of line graphs (Figure 8) and box plot (Figure 9) can be done from the insertion of the desired period in historical series.…”

“…This research was generally consisted of hydrology modeling and hydraulic modeling combination to analyze flood event in Madukoro Area (Figure 2). According to Cabral et al (2015), flood early warning is very useful for the community in order to reduce flood impact. Early warning system is a combination of meteorology, hydrology, and hydraulic factors.…”
