Ab Initio Optical Potentials and Nucleon Scattering on Medium Mass Nuclei

Abstract: We derive ab initio optical potentials from self-consistent Green's function (SCGF) theory and compute the elastic scattering of neutrons off oxygen and calcium isotopes. The comparison with scattering data is satisfactory at low scattering energies. The method is benchmarked against nocore shell model with continuum (NCSMC) calculations, showing that virtual excitations of the target are crucial to predict proper fragmentation and absorption at higher energies. This is a significant step toward deriving optic… Show more

“…[1][2][3][4]); however, more recently, the focus is increasingly moving toward extracting this quantity from first principles, without any fitting parameters (e.g., Refs. [5][6][7][8][9][10]). For lighter systems, computations can cover most of Hilbert space and predictions compare well with data (e.g., Ref.…”

“…It is characterized by a simultaneous fit of 2N and 3N LECs that does not rely solely on two-nucleon and A = 3, 4 data, but also on binding energies of 14 C and 16,22,24,25 O as well as charge radii of 14 C and 16 O. The resulting interaction, named NNLO sat , successfully describes the saturation of infinite nuclear matter [98] as well as various observables in mid-mass nuclei, including charge radii [42][43][44]53]. Unlike the NN+3N(400) interaction, NNLO sat employs a non-local regulator.…”

“…Excited states of even-even systems were addressed in the form of the electromagnetic dipole response in [42]. In [43], ab initio optical potentials were computed and applied in elastic scattering off 16 O and 40 Ca. Barbieri et al [44] instead discussed lepton-nucleus scattering, with particular attention to neutrino scattering off 40 Ar.…”
