Aggregatibacter

Abstract

Ag.gre.ga.ti.bac'ter. L. v. aggregare , to come together, aggregate; N.L. masc. n. bacter , rod; N.L. masc. n. Aggregatibacter rod‐shaped bacterium that aggregates with others. Proteobacteria / Gammaproteobacteria / Pasteurellales / Pasteurellaceae / Aggregatibacter The genus Aggregatibacter was established by reclassification of species previously classified in the genera Actinobacillus and Haemophilus . The genus includes typical members of the family Pateurellaceae with respect to cultural characteristics, phenotype, and colony morphology. Humans are the only documented hosts, although Aggregatibacter ‐like bacteria have been cultured from some higher primates. The genus includes four species with validated names. All species of the genus have been cultured from invasive infections of humans. Separation of Aggregatibacter from all other genera of the family Pasteurellaceae by phenotypic characters can be challenging. Partial sequencing of 16S rRNA genes or partial proteomic analysis by mass spectrometry is credible authenticating procedures. Members of the class Gammaproteobacteria , family Pasteurellaceae .
