Abstract:In a randomized study of renal replacement therapy in 1124 critical care patients with acute kidney insufficiency, intensive therapy (hemodialysis six times weekly or 35 ml ⁄ kg ⁄ hour of effluent volume for CVVHD) did not improve outcomes (54% mortality) compared with less intensive therapies (thrice weekly dialysis or 20 ml ⁄ kg ⁄ hour CVVHD; 52% mortality) (1).
