CP-odd correlation in the decay of a neutral Higgs boson intoZZ,W+W

Abstract: We investigate the possibility of detecting CP-odd angular correlations in the various decay modes of the neutral Higgs boson including the modes of a ZZ pair, a W + W − pair, or a heavy quark pair. It is a natural way to probe the CP character of the Higgs boson once it is identified. Final state interactions (i.e. the absorptive decay amplitude) is not required in such correlations. As an illustrative example we take the fundamental source of the CP nonconservation to be in the Yukawa couplings of the Higgs … Show more

“…These new interactions can be searched for at the upcoming generation of colliders in several ways (see [2] for a collection of recent results). The decays of Higgs bosons to τ − τ + leptons and/or -if the Higgs bosons are heavy enough -to tt quarks are particularly suited in this respect [4,5,6,7,8,9,10]. In this letter we show that, at the LHC, the CP nature of a neutral Higgs boson can be pinned down with appropriately chosen observables in its τ − τ + decay channel where the τ decay into three charged pions, provided that sufficiently large event numbers will eventually be available.…”

“…Some of these have been studied mostly in purely phenomenological formulations, i.e., without working in terms of gauge invariant dimension-6 operators or without performing a realistic simulation of events ( [8,11,12,19,28,31,32,34,38,39]). For generic observables like p T and rapidity distributions which are affected by both CP-even as well as CP-odd couplings, it may not be possible to separate the effect of the two couplings with sufficient statistical significance.…”
