Abstract:This introduction to the Special Issue on 1980s horror culture examines the influence of technology, fan cultures, repeat viewing and nostalgia for the 1980s in twenty-first century popular culture. Furthermore, it introduces the featured articles as challenging conventional readings of the ‘known’ 1980s to re-evaluate, reorient and advance new understandings about this rich and complex ‘long decade’ in contemporary horror studies.
