Abstract:This narrative review was aimed to analyze the current views on the biochemical and molecular mechanisms of ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (ω-3 PUFAs), in particular icosapent ethyl (IPE), in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D). The results of experimental, cohort, prospective, randomized clinical trials confirm the prospects of using IPE to prevent and treat ASCVD in T2D.
