Ictiofauna acompanhante da pesca de arrasto para embarcações acima de 45 hp no litoral do Paraná, Brasil

Abstract: Trawl fisheries are non-selective technique. The aim of this study was to characterize the bycatch of trawling vessels motorized with more than 45 HP. Monthly samples were deployed between August 2000 and July 2001 for large boat and August 2004 and July 2005 for medium boat off the coast of Paraná. The large and medium boat caught 45,277 and 57,387 fishes respectively. With both vessels were captured 99 taxon. Sciaenidae was the most representative family in number of species and individuals. There were diff… Show more

“…The majority of fish species eaten by local franciscana dolphins are discarded by the shrimp trawl fishery or used as a by-product (e.g. fishmeal, bait) (Coelho et al ., 1986; Fischer et al ., 2011; Santos et al ., 2016).…”

“…The species within the Ariidae family are of high commercial value in the South-western Atlantic (Freire & Pauly, 2005), Madmango sea catfish Cathorops spixii (Spix & Agassiz, 1829) being one of the most important. This is a benthic species widely distributed in estuaries and continental shelf between latitudes 13°N and 25°S (Dantas et al ., 2013; Denadai et al ., 2013; Santos et al ., 2016) and it has been characterized as a K-strategist fish with parental care and oral incubation of eggs and juveniles (Lima et al ., 2012). The artisanal fishery's mean annual catch of C. spixii in Brazil (1995–2000) was 2000 tons (Freire & Pauly, 2005), also being by-catch fauna of the shrimp fishery (Graça Lopes et al ., 2002; Cattani et al ., 2011).…”

“…Among the variables, transparency presented greater heterogeneity in the monthly mean values, with larger variations in the dry season between the two areas, and lower values in the Northern area; the lowest values can be related to the presence of barrier coast that facilitate the resuspension of sediments towards the interior of the Paranaguá Bay in periods of high frequency of cold fronts, in addition to the continental water inflow that contains high concentrations of suspended matter (Veiga et al, 2004). Studies developed on the continental shelf of the Paraná State indicate that fish community structure is characterized by the presence of key species, with remarkable dominance in number and weight of species of the family Sciaenidae (Cattani et al, 2011;Santos et al, 2016). Key species are those that make up the community base and, when absent, result in a substantially different community (Mahon and Smith, 1989).…”
