Identification of Groundwater Potential Using Wenner Configuration 2D Resistivity Method (Kupang, Nusa Tenggara Timur)

Abstract: Kupang is the capital of the Indonesian province of Nusa Tenggara Timur, and has an estimated population in 2019 of 434,972. It is the biggest city and port on the island of Timor. The needs for groundwater is urgent in Kupang. The geology of Kupang is located on the Batu Gamping Koral Formation which composed by coral limestone, which is physically barren and dry. So that local residents often have some problems with water availability. Therefore, needed the information about potential and depth of groundwate… Show more

“…Therefore, it is required to understand the groundwater potential and quality as essential information to develop groundwater resources in the industrial park to guarantee their sustainability. Groundwater is typically held within a geological formation called an aquifer, which becomes saturated with water and can store and transmit water [5]. This research aims to identify the subsurface geological, especially the aquifer system and physicochemicals of groundwater.…”

“…Although rare, mineral exploration also has another implementation [13]. The 2D application is broader because it can display a cross-section of subsurface profiles, for example, ground structure condition [6,14], mineral prospecting [13,15,16], agricultural soil analysis [17], landslide mitigation [18,19], and volcanology study [20], as well as also for groundwater layer identification [21][22][23].…”

“…Hence, to locate these bodies, an electrical resistivity pro le was carried out in two or three different directions on the lamproite pipe (Chandra et al, 1987). The Wenner resistivity pro ling method (Dias et al, 2010) was used with a potential electrode separation of 30 m and a current electrode separation of 90 m. For the Wenner electrical method, the resistivity is given by ρ = 2πa(V/I), where 'a' is the electrode separation between any two electrodes, 'V' is the potential difference and '2πa' is the geometry factor for the Wenner con guration (Minarto et al, 2021;Igboama et al, 2011;Dobrin and Savit, 1988).…”
