Identifying and Assessing Sustainable Value Management Implementation Activities in Developing Countries: The Case of Egypt

Abstract: Value management (VM) has become a useful tool for achieving sustainability in many countries. This paper aims to assess VM implementation and its activities towards achieving sustainable building projects in Egypt. Data were obtained from the literature, followed by a qualitative approach through a semi-structured interview and a quantitative approach via a questionnaire survey. In Cairo and Giza, data were collected from a sample of 200 building professionals using a questionnaire, while exploration of the c… Show more

“…The interviews aim to obtain in depth insights on the effects of the safety elements on safety program implementation. According to Sanders [ 50 ] and Hesse-Biber [ 51 ], ten interviewees can be considered an appropriate number for this kind of study because data saturation is usually achieved. Table 2 shows the sixteen experts who participated in the semi-structured interviews from the construction industry in main cities in Iraq [ 13 , 52 ].…”

“…Technology was added, based on the input from the interview participants, bringing the total number of CSFs to 22. A pilot study (Questionnaire 1) was then conducted using a list of safety program CSFs among building professionals who have appropriate industry experiences [67]. Data collected from the pilot study were analyzed using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), performed to check for the extensiveness and clarity of the CSFs of the safety program.…”

“…The identified constructs were used to design a closed-ended 5-point Likert scale with 5 = very high, 4 = high, 3 = average, 2 = low and 1 = very low as used in many earlier studies [78][79][80]. A closed-ended questionnaire was adopted because of its inherent ability to yield expedient responses from a large survey conducted and low administration costs [81].…”
