The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has changed the world, creating the need for new actions from society, including universities and companies. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are part of a global agenda, but this priority is not significant to university students. Although some research has focused on SDGs and university students, there is a lack of evaluation and comparison in Latin American countries. The current study aims to evaluate student knowledge of the SDGs, the relation of student professional careers to the SDGs, the importance of the SDGs for economic development after the COVID-19 pandemic, and student interest research in SDG issues. The study is carried out with students in Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru. The instrument was developed and validated. The highest score of level of knowledge was reported in Mexico and the lowest score in Colombia. This outcome can be explained by the availability of training programs in the universities about SDGs. The availability of programs created and promoted by the governments can also be a reason; however, students from Mexico are the ones who felt the most that the authorities are not making efforts to promote the SDGs. With research interests, interests in creating sustainable cities and communities, and responsible consumption and production were recognized for the four countries. The outcomes reveal several interesting insights through comparisons among the four countries considered according to descriptive analyses. Some SDGs were found to be more important for some countries than others. Interests were noted in research on some SDGs.

Mapping enablers for SDG implementation in the private sector: a systematic literature review and research agenda

Academics and practitioners alike recognize the important role of businesses in achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, research is still needed to understand strategies that can aid the private sector in this regard. The objective of the current paper is twofold. First, it provides an interdisciplinary systematic literature review of 96 papers published between 2015 and 2022 to analyse the state-of-the-art of the academic literature on the enablers that can facilitate SDG implementation in businesses. The analysis provides evidence that enablers can be categorized depending on whether they are external to the company (industry, tools, and education), internal to the company (company characteristics, governance, and adoption of innovation and technology), or a combination of both (Public–Private Partnerships). Second, it provides a specific research agenda on each enabler, offering relevant recommendations for academics, practitioners and policy makers to work simultaneously to achieve the UN’s 2030 Agenda.

Research involving multistakeholder collaborative partnerships is growing, as both academia and funding agencies align their objectives with societal challenges and undertake research in the context of application. In particular, the UN sustainable development goals mandate green process innovation research that transcends disciplinary boundaries. Responding to this opportunity, this article explores the question: how can researchers, as societal stakeholders, collaborate in the design and implementation of a green process innovation research initiative and produce actionable research-based contributions to knowledge? Drawing upon our shared experience of realizing green process innovation, we describe and conceptualize the collaborative inquiry process, reflecting on the interplay of modes of knowledge production and the complementarity of researchers’ roles. We conclude by noting how researchers collaborating in a green process innovation initiative can shape the environment in which Transdisciplinary research (TDR) develops and play different roles enabling breadth and diversity of interaction, depth of disciplinary integration, and production of different types of knowledge.
