Identifying factors for incorporating spatial data into BIM using the Delphi method

Abstract: Construction industry players are now realising the need to implement Building Information Modeling (BIM) at the preconstruction planning stage to allow spatial data of the site to be incorporated into the BIM. Incorporating spatial data in BIM as early as possible in the building lifecycle poses a new challenge to industry players, particularly to the consultants who collect and provide these data. The aim of this study is to identify important factors for incorporating spatial data into the BIM at the prec… Show more

“…Consensus can be tested with the Kendall's W statistic (Kendall and Smith, 1939;Yusof et al, 2018) which ranges from a value of 0 for no consensus to a value of 1 for unanimity. The method to calculate Kendall's W uses the ranking order given by each participant.…”

“…For example, Indonesia launched the Greenship for New Buildings version 1.0 and the Greenship for Existing Buildings and Interior Spaces to encourage the industry to pay greater attention to the environment (GBC, 2015) and Malaysia launched the Construction Industry Transformation Programme in 2016 to encourage better construction industry performances (CIDB, 2015). Other major innovation initiatives have been the implementation of green infrastructure and building project construction (Chang et al , 2016; Yusof et al , 2018), building information modelling (BIM) for large public projects (Yusof et al , 2018) and off-site construction methods such industrialised building systems (Rahim and Qureshi, 2018).…”

“…As professionals with expertise, knowledge and experience, architects play a formidable role for determining project success (Oluwatayo and Amole, 2011). Architects are skilled professionals in the construction industry who are involved in creating new ideas and adopting new technology and innovation (Yusof, Ishak and Doheim, 2018). The quality of the design of an architect has a connection with various aspects of performance (Salvatierra et al, 2019).…”
