Identifying supportive daytime lighting characteristics for enhancing individuals’ psychophysiological wellbeing in windowless workplace in tropical Malaysia

Abstract: Inappropriate architectural lighting exposures in workplaces are causing light-induced health and performance-related problems among healthy, urban individuals. This paper presents part one of an integrated tropical architectural lighting design framework for improving dayshift individuals’ psychophysiological wellbeing in windowless workplace in Malaysia. The paper discusses five architectural lighting factors, namely intensity, spectrum, timing, duration, spatial distribution. The daytime lighting characteri… Show more

“…Since the terminology around this topic varies and in order to avoid missing papers due to incomplete keywords, all eligible publications were forward-traced (by identifying the articles that cite them after they have been published). In addition, four relevant review papers found through the initial search that investigated the connection between architecture and NIF effects of light 8,[30][31][32] were forward-and backward-traced (by searching their references). Eventually, 55 papers were included in the literature review (Figure 2).…”

“…According to reports, the indoor light environment affects our vision, physiology, psychology and behaviour. [2][3][4][5][6] However, for a long time, researchers have generally focused on the influence of physical parameters of light on subjective impressions. There is a lack of an effective objective method to characterize subjective evaluations.…”
