Identifying the Absence of Knowledge Using Bibliometric Analysis: The Case of the “Bad Behavior Index”

Abstract: There are various hypotheses as to why some nations are more developed than others, including political instability, corruption, and exclusive institutions. However, one hypothesis that has not been extensively studied is the impact of 'bad behavior' on development. To test the validity of such hypothesis, a composite index must be developed to quantify such behavior, and facilitate for the study of its impact on development. This study aims to lay the foundation for the development of such index by conducting… Show more

“…The next step is to select the appropriate visualization method and software to provide a visual summary of the bibliometric data obtained and to obtain bibliometric outputs by running the selected software. Finally, interpreting software outputs involves completing the science mapping process and discussing and interpreting its findings (Al Fozaie, 2023). In our study, the same systematic was followed, and the necessary data were first collected from the Web of Science database, and the "refine" process was performed as it should, or the "exclude" process was performed to leave some parameters separately.…”

“…This threshold is set based on the most cited or frequently occurring articles and keywords, potentially excluding some relevant articles with fewer citations. Researchers determine these threshold levels based on their judgment, as they serve as the default setting for VOS viewer [147]. Moreover, a limitation of bibliometric analysis is its exclusive focus on quantitative metrics, which may not always accurately evaluate recently published articles that have not yet received a large number of citations [148].…”
