IEC-61850-Based Communication for Integrated EV Management in Power Systems with Renewable Penetration

Abstract: As the number of EVs increases, their impact on electrical systems will be substantial. Novel management schemes are needed to manage the electrical load they require when charging. Literature is rich with different techniques to manage and control this effect on the grid by controlling and optimizing power flow. Although these solutions heavily rely on communication lines, they mostly treat communication as a black box. It is important to develop communication solutions that can integrate EVs, charging statio… Show more

“…The communication standard IEC 61850 [11] specifies standards to be followed for the interchange of information among smart electronic devices within the substation whereas IEC 61850-7-420 [12] pilot schemes in the area of communication related infrastructure for renewable energy generation and IEC 61850-7-420 [13] has been extended to consider components that do not fall under the above criteria. Nevertheless, EVs operations and V2G remained uninte-grated till 61850-90-8 [14] was suggested to fit perfectly electric vehicles into smart grids. Desirable properties of an EV charger are high energy density and efficiency, bidirectional energy flow and low current ripple, etc [15,16].…”

“…Humans always want to maintain or increase their life comfort day by day. Conventional energy sources fulfill the maximum electricity demand to date but non-conventional energy sources are also required to minimize the rising burden on raw materials of conventional energy sources [1,2]. As per the US EPA survey, greenhouse gases are one of the most air-infecting agents.…”
