IgG4 Detection of Echinococcus granulosus Paramyosin Is a Useful Diagnostic Test for Human Hydatidosis

Abstract: Hydatidosis is a public health problem in many parts of the world, and improvement in diagnosis of the disease is still being pursued. Protoscoleces of Echinococcus granulosus were isolated from hydatid cysts collected from naturally infected sheep slaughtered in abattoirs in Iran. Sonicated extract of protoscolex was subjected to two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and Western blot analysis. Primary antibodies were from serum samples from 130 hydatidosis patients, 38 individuals infected with other parasitic … Show more

“…42 A previous study by our laboratory with E. granulosus protoscolex antigen showed an increased sensitivity for the detection of CE antigens when IgG4 was used compared with IgG. 45 The results of this study reaffirmed the high potential for an IgG4 assay to be used in CE diagnosis.…”

“…Most frequently, this happens with other cestodes, in particular E. multilocularis (50–100% cross‐reactivity) . Better Sp has been reported with the detection of IgG 4 isotypes; however, Se is much decreased .…”

“…Regarding diagnosis through skeletal proteins, paramyosin has been identified as a useful antigen in Western blot studies using serum samples of patients with hydatid disease [ 137 ]. Immunoproteomics on extracts of different stages of H. diminuta showed the identification of some cytoskeleton proteins, including actin, paramyosin, tubulins, laminin, and filamin [ 138 , 139 ].…”
