“…The rate of mitosis in psoriasis is high [9] (>6/hpf) and is comparable with that of oral SCC [10] (mean mitotic figures/hpf -6.3); thus, psoriasis, which is itself a hyperproliferative disorder, is probably regulated to some extent, so that it does not reach to a level of malignancy, though it can still go on to a stage of exfoliative dermatitis. What could be the responsible factors, which are at play in inhibiting this conversion, needs to be explored further.…”

“…Although hairy‐like projections were considered the cornerstone feature in identifying mitoses in LM 6,21 these projections are not obvious in approximately 60% of mitotic figures in WSIs. In previous studies, assessing mitoses in WSI depended upon existing criteria to define mitosis in LM, which include absent nuclear membrane and clear hairy‐like projections at the outline of the nucleus 4,21 . However, the lack of fine‐tuning facility in whole slide scanners makes identifying these fine details a challenging task.…”

“…As the microscopic objectives used (numeric aperture, field diameter at specimen level) are difficult to control, mitoses per high power field may be quite variable; because of this, results cannot be compared between various laboratories. Therefore, counting per mm 2 reduced the need for additional standardisation and gave significant findings [11] (Table 3).…”

“…The higher sensitivity of crystal violet could be described due to its basic nature and its high affinity for highly acidic chromatin [9]. The overall higher diagnostic efficiency of crystal violet could also be explained due to the modification of a staining method by using 1N HCL at 60°C, therefore causing an increase in contrast due to the light staining of the cytoplasm, which is likely to be a result of the decreased RNA content following hydrolysis [11].…”
