Immediate loading of implants installed in a healed alveolar bony ridge or immediately after tooth extraction: an experimental study in dogs

Abstract: Different patterns of sequential early healing were found at implants installed in healed alveolar bone or in alveolar sockets immediately after tooth extractions. However, three months after implant installation, no statistically significant differences were found for the hard- and soft-tissue dimensions.

“…These histological outcomes in both immediate and delayed sites were in agreement with those reported using similar surgical protocols in a similar experimental model (Mainetti et al., ; Favero, Botticelli, Garcia, Mainetti, & Lang, ). The wider crestal values reported for the test implants with the immediate protocol indicate that the reduction in the diameter of the implant by the triangular sectioning was effective in providing a greater distance to the socket wall, which subsequently filled with bone when appropriate healing time was allowed.…”

“…Several experiments evaluating the effect of loading on osseointegration also have been performed in various animal models, such as monkeys, dogs, pigs and rabbits . Some experiments evaluated osseointegration when a physiologic load was applied . Other experiments applied an overload at the test sites, or a non‐axial load or a lateral load …”
