Immirzi parameter, torsion, and discrete symmetries

Abstract: We point out that the new interaction of spinning particles with the torsion tensor, discussed recently, is odd under charge conjugation and time reversal. This explains rather unexpected symmetry properties of the induced effective 4-fermion interaction. As has been demonstrated in [1], the gravitational action can be written asHere I, J = 0, 1, 2, 3 are internal Lorentz indices, µ, ν = 0, 1, 2, 3 are space-time indices; e I µ is the tetrad field, e is its determinant, and e µ I is the object inverse to e I µ … Show more

“…Note that we have implemented general couplings between torsion and the vector and axial currents in order to encapsulate the various models present elsewhere in the literature. By setting τ = λ = 0 we recover the matter action introduced in [39], while setting β = τ = λ = 0 we recover the matter action given for example in [42,44,45]. Turning off all torsion couplings α = β = τ = λ = 0 recovers the matter action discussed for example in [46].…”

“…Being substituted back into the action, this estimate shows that the first two terms of the action (6) are of the order of p 4 , and that the " R 2 term is a tiny p 8 =M 4 P correction.…”

“…We also work out explicitly the 4-fermion self-interaction in the equivalent torsion-free theory. The selfinteraction may or may not break parity invariance, and may contribute positively or negatively to the energy density, depending on the couplings considered (see [1,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13] for related literature).…”
