Immune formulation-assisted conventional therapy on anti-infective effectiveness of multidrug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection mice

Abstract: Immune formulation thymopentin can enhance the anti-infective ability of multidrug-resistant M. tuberculosis infection mice, decrease bacterial load in lung and spleen, and enhance immune function.

“…Moreover, TNF-α can induce cell differentiation and promote mononuclear cells or T cells to secrete a variety of cytokines [31]. Mature T lymphocytes can be divided into two subsets: CD4 + and CD8 + [32, 33]. CD4 + cells are T helper cells that aid in secreting numerous cytokines and enhance the killing effect of CD8 + cells in tumors [34].…”

“…Thymopentin is a synthetic pentapeptide with immunological activity. In a BALB/c mouse model treated with thymopentin, Th1 and Th17 cells in the peripheral blood increased significantly, while Th2, Treg responses, and programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) expression decreased, with no significant side effects when compared with the control group ( Yuan et al., 2016 ). In addition, patients with TB treated with thymopentin combined with chemotherapy showed a synergistic effect with symptom improvement, promoting sputum-negative conversion and lesion absorption ( Wu et al., 2018 ).…”

“…For example, TP5 increases resistance to infection in mice infected with multidrug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis , reduces the bacterial load in the lungs and spleen, and improves immune functions. 25 TP5 also induces T-cell differentiation, promotes T-lymphocyte subpopulation development, maturation, and activation, and normalizes the CD4 + /CD8 + T-cell ratio. 26 TP5 was likewise found to have substantial LPS-neutralizing activity, as well as the ability to block LPS attachment and intracellular inflammatory responses.…”
